The three apartments “Il Geco” are immersed in the beautiful historical backdrop of RioneMalve, one of the oldest neighborhoods of the SassoCaveoso, where it’s possible to live in a typical cave habitat which gave origin to the life of man, in the rugged territory of rock called “tufa”.
For us, it’s an honor to have you experience theindescribable charm of a city that’s out of the ordinary. In this spirit, we try to keep the essence and the style of the customary houses without too many luxuries and frills.

Green, Blue or Yellow: choose the color of your holiday
The apartments are inside a typical house called "palazziata" of the Sassi of Matera, or rather an apartment in a hypogeum or natural cave with a barrel vault and rainwater cistern "Il GecoVerde" (green) and on the upper floor two apartment built in tufa blocks one with a pointed vault "Il Geco Blu" (blue) and one with a barrel vault "il Geco Giallo" .

Cancellation policy
In case of cancellation up to 15 days before your date of arrival there is no charge.
From the 14th day before the date of arrival or in case of no show or early departure the penalty is equal to 100% of the amount of the stay.
Reception
We do not have a reception on the premises, but we are always available 24/24h.
Check-In
Please notify your arrival time because we usually aren’t on the premises and we would prefer to organize at best your check-in and avoid useless waits.
At check-in the keys will be handed over to offer maximum freedom of access of the premises at any time.
Check-in is carried out from 14:00 to 18:00. After 18:00 an agreed arrangement is necessary. We also offer the possibility for late check-in after 22:00. (At an extra charge of euro 20,00).

From our apartments you can easily visit on foot all the wonders of the UNESCO World Heritage city since 1993 and the next European Capital of Culture for 2019: Madonna de Idris, Santa Lucia to Malve, San Pietro Caveoso and overlooking the river Gravina are only some of the nearest, but also Ridola Museum, Palazzo Lanfranchi, Cathedral, MUSMA and Casa Noha are just a few minutes away.

How to reach us
In car or motorcycle
From the Tyrrhenian coast
Take the Salerno-Reggio Calabria highway. Follow the signs for Potenza. Then continue for Metaponto along the SS 407 “Basentana” until you see signs for Matera near Ferrandina Scalo.
From the Adriatic coast
Take the Bologna-Taranto highway to exit Bari Nord. Continue through the industrial zone, to Altamura-Matera, that is the SS 96 and then the SS 99, construction to be completed.
From Calabria and Sicily
Take highway Reggio Calabria-Salerno. Exit at Sibari and take the SS 106 Jonica to Taranto. Take the exit Matera, near Metaponto.
From Salento
The most comfortable road foresees passing Taranto and taking the SS 106 Jonica until exit Matera near Metaponto.
Parking
In the area of the Sassi, it is not allowed for non-residents to park, it is therefore recommended to park your car at the multi-level car park in via Pasquale Vena, approx. 300m from our premises or in the various free parking spaces nearby.
By airplane
The nearest airport is Bari Palese, just 60 Km approximately.
Bari Palese is connected with the major Italian cities such as Milan, Rome, Verona, Turin, Venice, Trapani, Bergamo, Bologna also with international destinations such as London (Stanstead and Gatwick), Paris,
Barcelona, Brussels, Cologne, Bucharest, Tirana, Stuttgart, Munich, Timisoara.
The airlines concerned are among others are: British Airways, Lufthansa, MyAir, Ryan Air, Hapag Lloyd, AirOne, Club Air.

By bus
Due to insufficient railways, there are various solutions. The Marino bus services link Matera to Milan, Ancona, Bologna, Chianciano, Fiuggi, Naples, Novara, Parma, Reggio Emilia, Sassuolo and Urbino, in addition to numerous foreign cities. For information call 080 3112335.
Autolinee Marozzi connects to the cities of Rome, Florence, Pisa and Siena. There are usually two trips, by day and at night. For Rome the duration is approximately seven hours.
